The following
message is from Roger Lowe, Senior Vice President,
Communications:
This Sunday, November 1, at 8:00
p.m. (ET), ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition is expected to feature a
one-minute segment on American Red Cross standard CPR/AED training and the
Mattingly family of Kentucky. Steve Mattingly, a volunteer
firefighter, was injured when he was hit by a car while directing traffic
responding to a fire. His wife Melissa is an EMT and saved his life. Both
were trained by Red Cross.
In coordination with NHQ Health and
Safety and the Big Rivers Chapter in Owensboro, Ky., the importance of CPR/AED is expected to
be highlighted in a scene that features designer Didiayer Snyder and country
singer Clint Black, a Red Cross supporter, as the celebrity volunteer.
Chapters can use the airing of this
program to pitch their local ABC affiliates on local live-saving stories from
their community and the importance of CPR/AED training. For the show, Red Cross
Preparedness and Health and Safety staff walked the participants through
Standard First Aid and CPR/AED training.
In addition, we also wanted to alert
you that that some recent news reports have covered Compression-Only CPR. Should
you receive questions about this type of CPR during the course of your media
outreach, there are updated talking points for you to
